Hussein Janmohamed is a Toronto-based choral artist, composer and conductor passionate choral and vocal arts as a medium for cultural dialogue, building positive relations, and accessing the human spirit. Hussein brings interactive choral experiences in community, education, and business settings regardless of musical experience.
Hussein's compositions and artistic programs are inspired by a cosmopolitan spirit drawn from his intercultural lived experience. His music expresses a pluralistic Canadian music drawn from his Ismaili Muslim family and community's centuries-old history of enlightened encounters between Sufism, Western, Swahili (East African), Persian, Hindustani and Muslim cultures.
Hussein offers choral creation and collaboration workshops, consultation on music composition in the choral classroom and artistic programming from a pluralistic perspective. He provides choral clinics and workshops for choirs, and specializes in choral and vocal workshops with Muslim youth. Hussein is a sought after speaker and facilitator on topics such as diversity, pluralism, intercultural knowledge production, interfaith dialogue and creativity in the classroom.
